Dalhousie University Educational Leadership Award

This award is presented annually to recognize the work of an individual who has made a significant contribution to the enhancement of university teaching.

Criteria

The Selection Committee will look for evidence of:
  1. a commitment to improving university teaching (primarily at Dalhousie, and possibly beyond the institution);
  2. leadership in creating an institutional environment which supports, encourages, and rewards teaching excellence.

Eligibility

The award is open to all Dalhousie University faculty members. (Please note that those eligible include, but are not limited to, recipients of awards for excellence in teaching. Department chairs and heads are also eligible.)

Nomination Procedures

Written applications should include:
  1. a completed nomination form;
  2. up to three letters from nominators outlining the basis of nomination;
  3. a curriculum vitae or teaching dossier emphasizing the nominee's contributions to the enhancement of teaching;
  4. a statement from the nominee about his or her approach to teaching improvement;
  5. exemplary materials (documentary evidence relevant to the nominee's work in improving teaching at the departmental, school, faculty and/or institutional levels, e.g., policy statements, reports, curriculum materials, program or workshop descriptions and/or evaluations, research reports and publications on university teaching, and so on);
  6. any other information which will assist the Selection Committee in its deliberations.

Selection Committee

The Senate Committee on Learning and Teaching will function as the Selection Committee.

Award and Recognition

The winner will receive a framed print with his or her name and the name of the award. Publicity will include coverage in the Dalhousie News. The winner will automatically be put forward as a nominee for the regional AAU Instructional Leadership Award.

Award Presentation

The award will be presented at a designated Senate meeting.
